I'm a CPA and a Certified Financial Coach with 35 years of experience. I provide personal and confidential financial coaching for individuals and families.
I'm originally from Nashville, TN, attended Rhodes College in Memphis, TN and graduated with a B.A. in Business Administration. Soon after graduation, I attained my CPA designation and later earned my certification as a financial coach. My professional experience is in public accounting, commercial lending/banking and as the Chief Financial Officer of several small healthcare companies. (See full profile on LinkedIn - link below).
I have been passionately helping people with their finances for many years. My clients have told me that once we develop a plan for them to succeed with their finances, they feel like "a huge weight has been lifted off their shoulders". Because of my life experiences, I truly feel a mission to help people of all ages with their finances.
We lost my father unexpectedly when I was 22 years old. I was living with my parents and had been working at my first job out of college for 2 months. My brother was a junior in college and went back to school shortly after my father's funeral. In addition to the emotional devastation my father's death brought upon our family, we had to figure out the finances at the same time. The additional burden of chaotic finances was particularly hard on my mother who was only 45 years old.
Not having my father's guidance at the start of my professional career put me behind with my financial plan. I've realized this even more clearly in the past several years as I have guided my young adult children with their finances and their transition to financial independence. Getting my finances on the right track earlier in my life would have made such a difference. It's never too late to start but the earlier the better.
I also went through a divorce when I was 35 years old. Again, figuring out the financial aspect added another burden at this difficult time. Having a trusted financial coach by my side as my guide would have made such a difference to me and my family during these stressful times.
Even though I was already on the path to a professional career in business and accounting, these losses both forced and motivated me to learn as much as possible about personal financial management. Personal finance is not typically taught in school. I definitely made financial mistakes along the way. But I am grateful for all of the life lessons because they have made me a more kind, compassionate and resourceful woman than I otherwise might have been.
Helping others succeed with their finances gives my struggles meaning and makes me truly happy. I love working with different types of people at every stage of their financial journeys, but I am particularly drawn to working with young adults, single mothers and women experiencing losses such as the death of a spouse or a divorce.
I am happily married and blessed to have two grown children, two grown stepchildren and two nieces. I enjoy spending my personal time with family and friends, hiking the trails or walking the road in Percy Warner Park, and boating and wake surfing on Tims Ford Lake.
My grandparents owned a lake house on Old Hickory Lake when I was growing up. I learned to boat and slalom ski at a very young age and my childhood memories from those lake times spent with family and friends are so dear to me. As an adult, I always dreamed of having a vacation home that I could share with those closest to me just like my grandparents did. I am grateful that even in spite of the late start and the mistakes I made along my financial journey, I was still able to make this dream to come to life.
My husband and I have recently learned how to wake surf and wakeboard and we look forward to every boating season! We also enjoy hiking near the lake in the fall and winter months. We plan to make many memories with family and friends at our lake home and pass this dream down to future generations of our family.
I hope this helps you understand my personal background and how I naturally developed a passion for serving others as a financial coach. I truly look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your goals on your financial journey!
